Carol provides psychotherapy services in York Region which are tailored to the unique needs and issues of each individual.    Because of its’ effectiveness, Carol tends to use a mainly Cognitive Behavioural therapeutic (CBT) approach which is the Gold standard for Anxiety and Depression.  Research has shown CBT to be very effective in improving mood and alleviating Anxiety and Depression.   Where helpful, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) techniques are also introduced.

To help you move forward, you will be encouraged to actively work toward your goals within and between sessions.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy- This evidence-based therapeutic approach identifies and treats the thoughts and behaviours that impact our mood

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction- This practice encourages you to be fully engaged in the present, without judging it

Psychotherapy- While Carol focusses more on the present, this approach provides insight into how your past and current life circumstances may be affecting your behaviour, relationships, thoughts and worldview.  The safe, caring and compassionate therapeutic relationship itself can have a healing benefit.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) approach has been shown to be effective in managing both stress and anxiety.  While the concept and method is relatively easy, it takes some practice to experience the benefits.  Ultimately, it offers a way to feel present in the moment rather than swept away by stress and worry which interfere with participating fully in life.

Carol may introduce and incorporate MBSR strategies if a client is interested and could benefit.  For those who would like to experience more in depth MBSR practice, Carol would be happy to refer you to more extensive, weekly sessions offered in the community.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that has been proven to be very effective in improving both Anxiety and Depression.  It looks at how Thoughts and Behaviours serve to maintain or worsen our moods and provides ways to fundamentally change both.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT) is an approach that looks at how to stop fighting against negative thoughts and engaging in behaviours that lead us away from what really matters and helps us to get ‘unstuck’ by focussing on and moving toward what really matters

Psychotherapy is a talk-based therapy that explores problems and concerns to help move clients toward a better sense of well-being in the World.  The safe, therapeutic relationship itself can also be healing – as clients can begin to see themselves in a new, more compassionate and positive way.
