IBS and Depression

October 5th, 2018  |  Published in Announcements

Many people I see in my office with mood issues (depression and anxiety) have stomach/gut/bowel issues, and are often diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).  Although Serotonin is a brain neurotransmitter, 90 per cent of the body’s peripheral Serotonin is actually produced in the digestive tract.  More and more Studies are suggesting that it is “microbes in the gut which stimulate intestinal cells to produce serotonin’.  This means that certain probiotics can actually improve mood.  Check with your pharmacist, naturopath or family doctor to see if probiotics are right for you.
